  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for glaze
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon for glaze (optional)
  • Chopped nuts (pecans, walnuts) for topping
  • Sprinkles for topping
  • Caramel sauce for topping

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, mix the wet ingredients: buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. Gradually combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients until just mixed; avoid overmixing.
  4. Fold in the diced apples gently until evenly distributed.
  5. Preheat your waffle iron and lightly grease it with vegetable oil.
  6. Pour about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of batter onto the hot waffle iron and cook for 3-5 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Remove from the iron and let cool on a wire rack while you prepare the glaze.
