- 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- Vegetable oil, for greasing the waffle iron
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup milk, or more as needed
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for glaze
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon for glaze (optional)
- Chopped nuts (pecans, walnuts) for topping
- Sprinkles for topping
- Caramel sauce for topping
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix the wet ingredients: buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients until just mixed; avoid overmixing.
- Fold in the diced apples gently until evenly distributed.
- Preheat your waffle iron and lightly grease it with vegetable oil.
- Pour about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of batter onto the hot waffle iron and cook for 3-5 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from the iron and let cool on a wire rack while you prepare the glaze.
- Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and optional cinnamon for the glaze before dipping each waffle donut into it.
