  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 140 g unsalted butter (room temp)
  • 100 g neutral oil
  • 283 g whole milk (room temp)
  • 2 eggs (room temp)
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 227 g unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 12 oz cream cheese (cold)
  • 340 g powdered sugar (sifted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two greased 9-inch cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, dark brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and spices until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, mix the room temperature butter, oil, milk, eggs, and vanilla using an electric mixer until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture on low speed until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Allow cakes to cool for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack.
  7. For the frosting, beat room temperature butter and cold cream cheese until smooth; gradually mix in sifted powdered sugar.
  8. Once cooled completely, frost between layers and over the top and sides of the cake.
