- 4 slices sourdough bread
- 6 tbsp unsalted butter, divided
- 1 honeycrisp apple, thinly sliced
- 2 large yellow onions, sliced
- 8 oz cheddar cheese, grated
- 2 oz brie cheese, sliced
- 1 tbsp fresh sage, chopped
- 2 tsp kosher salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add sliced onions and sauté, stirring occasionally.
- After 10 minutes, sprinkle in 1 teaspoon of salt. Continue cooking for another 30-40 minutes until golden brown; add water if needed to prevent sticking.
- In a small bowl, mix the remaining softened butter with chopped sage and 1 teaspoon of salt.
- Assemble the sandwich: place one slice of bread down, layer with brie, cheddar, apple slices, caramelized onions, and top with another slice of bread spread with sage butter.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and grill the sandwich for about 6 minutes on each side until golden brown.
