  • 2 pounds Yukon gold potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the heavy cream, milk, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg. Heat until warm but do not boil.
  3. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish and pour half of the cream mixture over them.
  4. Sprinkle half of the cheddar and Parmesan cheese over the first layer.
  5. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.
  6. Dot the top with butter pieces. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
