Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine Maseca masa harina and a pinch of salt.
- Gradually add water, mixing with your hands until fully combined into a dough-like texture.
- Knead the dough until smooth and non-sticky, resembling playdough.
- Divide the dough into 12 portions and cover them with a damp kitchen towel.
- Heat a comal or skillet over medium heat.
- Roll each portion into a ball, flatten it between two plastic sheets using a heavy dish or tortilla press.
- Cook the gorditas on the hot griddle for about 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown spots appear.
- Cut slits into each gordita to create pockets and keep warm between kitchen towels.
- Fill with your favorite ingredients such as shredded chicken, cheese, or refried beans.
