- 2½ cups all-purpose flour

- Red gel food coloring
Instructions
- Beat the softened butter and powdered sugar together until smooth and fluffy.
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract; mix until well combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt, then gradually add to the wet mixture until fully incorporated.
- Divide the dough into two portions; color one half with red gel food coloring.
- Wrap both halves in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for about 1 hour.
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Roll equal portions of red and white dough into ropes, twist together gently, and shape into candy cane forms.
- Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet with space between each cookie.
- Bake for 8–10 minutes until just set; let cool before serving.
