  4. Divide the dough into two portions; color one half with red gel food coloring.
  5. Wrap both halves in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for about 1 hour.
  6. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  7. Roll equal portions of red and white dough into ropes, twist together gently, and shape into candy cane forms.
  8. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet with space between each cookie.
  9. Bake for 8–10 minutes until just set; let cool before serving.
