Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ¾ cup buttermilk
- ½ cup unsalted butter (for glaze)
- 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 1–2 tbsp milk (for thinning, as needed)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and stir in vanilla extract.
- Gradually add flour mixture and buttermilk to the creamed mixture until just combined.
- Spread batter in the prepared pan and bake for 22–25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool completely before glazing.
- For the glaze, melt butter in a saucepan until golden brown. Whisk in powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk to reach desired consistency.
- Pour glaze over cooled bars and let set before slicing.
