  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: Approximately 12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (for glaze)
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 12 tbsp milk (for thinning, as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add flour mixture and buttermilk to the creamed mixture until just combined.
  5. Spread batter in the prepared pan and bake for 22–25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool completely before glazing.
  6. For the glaze, melt butter in a saucepan until golden brown. Whisk in powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk to reach desired consistency.
  7. Pour glaze over cooled bars and let set before slicing.
