Ingredients
- 1.5 pounds beef belly, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 thumb-sized piece of ginger, peeled and sliced
- ¼ cup light soy sauce
- ¼ cup dark soy sauce
- ⅓ cup apple vinegar
- ¼ cup hoisin sauce
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 cup water
- Chopped green onions and sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add beef belly pieces and sear until browned on all sides (about 5–7 minutes). Remove beef from the pan.
- In the same pan, sauté minced garlic and sliced ginger for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
- Return beef to the pan and add light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, apple vinegar, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, and water. Stir to coat evenly.
- Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 1 to 1½ hours until beef is tender and sauce thickens into a sticky glaze.
- Adjust seasoning if needed before serving hot over steamed rice or with vegetables. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
