Instructions
- Prepare the strawberries by slicing them and mixing with granulated sugar. Let sit for 30 minutes to macerate.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut cold butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add milk and vanilla; stir just until combined.
- Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet to form shortcakes.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes.
- Whip cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.
- Assemble by splitting shortcakes, layering with strawberries and whipped cream.
