  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • ½ cup sugar (for orange filling)
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (for orange filling and ganache)
  • Fresh orange slices or candied orange peel (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract; mix until smooth. Stir in hot coffee or water until fully incorporated.
  3. Divide the batter among the prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely in pans before transferring to a wire rack.
  4. For the orange filling, whisk together sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks in a saucepan. Slowly whisk in orange juice and cook over medium heat until thickened. Stir in zest and butter; let cool.
  5. For the ganache topping, heat cream until steaming; pour over chopped chocolate and stir until smooth.
  6. Assemble the cake by layering with orange filling between each layer and pouring ganache on top.
