  • Total Time: 39 minutes
  • Yield: Serves approximately 9 squares 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 ounces cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • cinnamon (for garnishing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line an 8-by-8-inch baking pan with aluminum foil and spray with cooking spray.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Let it cool slightly before whisking in the egg, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until smooth.
  3. Stir in the flour and salt until just combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth out the top. Bake for 20 to 24 minutes or until set; a toothpick should come out clean.
  5. Allow cooling on a wire rack for at least 90 minutes before frosting.
  6. For the frosting, beat together cream cheese, softened butter, confectioners' sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until light and fluffy.
  7. Spread frosting over cooled bars and garnish with cinnamon. Slice into squares and serve.
