Ingredients
- 10 ounces fresh strawberries (divided)
- 3–4 tablespoons granulated sugar
- zest from 1/2 lemon (optional)
- 1/2 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- 2 cups cold milk
Instructions
- Prepare the Strawberry Syrup: Hull and chop 6 ounces of strawberries, then mash them until crushed. Mix in sugar, lemon zest, and lemon juice.
- Simmer: Transfer the mixture to a small pot and simmer over medium-low heat for 2-5 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Cool the Syrup: Remove from heat, add vanilla extract if desired, cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for about an hour.
- Assemble: Finely dice the remaining strawberries. In two glasses, divide the cooled syrup, add diced strawberries, and pour in cold milk. Stir well before serving.
